Pros news

Putting Studio

PuttingWe now have the putting studio fully functional, where you can come and use the same training aids that putting guru Phil Kenyon uses with the likes of Rory Mcilroy and Henrik Stenson.

For example check your alignment and starting line through the gate.

Come into the shop or contact me to book yourself into the putting studio so we can start seeing you holing more putts.

Club news

Last week we had a busy time at the club, firstly on Tuesday with 12 of our new associates and 'This Girl Can' ladies joining us for a spot of indoor golf taking place in the dining room. It was great to spend some more time with our new members and to see them all interact, having fun and arranging to go and play was great to see.

Then on Wednesday we had Doug Norval from the R&A attend the club and deliver an excellent Rules evening, which was very well attended and a lot was learnt about the rules in general and more importantly specific to RGC. As a result certain winter rules have been changed and they can now been seen in or outside the pro shop. A big thank you to Ian Sharman for arranging this evening and Doug for making it so interesting.

Finally on Friday I had the delight of attending the Junior Awards night, it's been a few years since I was there and I have to say I did feel a little old! One thing hasn't changed though and that's the exemplary junior organisers we have, with Cleve, Jane and Isobel doing a tremendous job of organising not just the night but another wonderful season for the juniors. Also the terrific attendance from the juniors, parents, past Captain's and committee members.

Everyone was very smartly dressed, well mannered and the speeches from the winners were simply awesome and I think we can all be very proud of how are juniors are developing not just as golfers but as people as well.

A point in history was made as well with our 1st female Junior Captain in Bronte Ward and the team in the pro shop wish her all the very best for her captaincy.

Competition news

For the ladies last week in Division 1 Linda Hill took the victory with a net 52 over 13 holes, helped along with a great 2 at the 3rd, closely followed by Bernie Battman with a net score of 54. In Division 2 Kate McKenna was successful with a net score of 55, followed by Judith Hardman with a net 58.

Unfortunately this Saturday for the Men's Competition, whilst the course was more than playable and buggies were allowed back on the course, the fog came to rest! It tried to lift and became clearer at times but during the afternoon the fairway bunker on the 1st wasn't visible anymore and the competition was brought to a halt. Well done to all those that tried their best and got round.

Coaching news

Henry swingYou will be glad to know that Henry Featherstone is working hard at his game. He is experiencing slightly different weather to the rest of us and his swing is looking really good….

Well done Henry keep up the good work.

Upcoming events

Christmas Eve falls on a Saturday this year and for those that want some fresh air and exercise before tackling that big bird and those roast potatoes, I'm running a Pro's comp - a shotgun start at 9.30am played over 13 holes on 24th Dec. This will be a Texas Scramble event - teams of four and to mix and welcome some of our newer members we'll be doing a draw for both teams and tees. Entry is £5 each inc Two's. Plan is to all get back in the bar for 12.30pm for a pint and a mince pie with a warming hot dish available from the chef for £5.

So we can plan for numbers, please sign up in the Pro shop anytime between now and Friday 16th Dec. This event is open to ALL categories of members; Men, Ladies, Juniors, 6 day even our country members if they are in the vicinity.
