Its Has Been A Special Week
What a fantastic week it was for the one member of the pro Shop team, as Sam proposed to his girlfriend in London and we are pleased to say that she said Yes. Well done Sam and all the very best from the rest of the team and all the members here at RGC.
I have to say, I thought the Masters this year was fantastic and Sergio got that Major that was so deserved. Justin Rose was the true sportsman during and after the event, making me proud to be English and a golfer.
On to our Masters sweep stake the lucky winners were:
- First place with Garcia was Henry Wallace winning a Galvin Green Jacket.
- Second place with Rose was Nigel Oakes winning a pair of Dry Joys.
- Third place with Schwartzel was Clive Westbrook winning a dozen ProV1 and Titleist Cap.
A fantastic performance by Fred Couples, gave the over 50's prize to Mark Senior winning a sleeve of golf balls of his choice.
Two Amateurs made the cut, but the lowest for 36 holes and overall was Hagstead, who currently works in New York and plays golf in his spare time, he went to Patrick Air, also winning a sleeve of golf balls of his choice.

Teaching Some Fantastic Golfers
On a personal note, a lot of you know, I'm fortunate enough to coach some fantastic lady amateur golfers and two of them Louisa Brunt and Gemma Clews, have both been selected to play for England against Spain. Gemma is also on the front of golfers Local after winning the Comboy Scratch, which is a national event held at Delemere, not just once but four years in a row. These are two girls that work very hard on their game and I'm very proud of.
Srixon Demo Day
We had Srixon deliver a club demonstration and ball fitting day. The ball fitting was particularly interesting with all apart from one discovering a new ball that works better for their individual game.
It was interesting how the compression of a golf ball can make a big difference to accuracy, as the ball is compressed on the face it reduces spin giving less curvature in flight. It was also explained, that if you dropped two different compression balls from shoulder height, the lower compression would bounce higher, but if you dropped the same two balls from the top of a building, the higher compression would bounce higher, as it didn't lose energy through heat generated as it compressed.
Again on a personal note, I discovered the right iron shaft for myself, which is something I have been searching for, for quite a while so look out for me with my white graphite shaft with flames on.
I also had the pleasure of a helping a few members out on the course with a playing lesson throughout the week and I tested the new TaylorMade TP5X ball and I can comfortably say, it's the best ball I have hit and surprisingly the area that improved the most was control with pitching. I can see why Dustin Johnson, John Rahm, Justin Rose and not to mention Sergio Garcia are doing so well with it.
