Are you a good putter or not and how do we classify this?
It was explained to me recently that a way of classifying if you are a good putter is by how many feet you hole in a round of golf. There are two ways of doing this, either just adding up the total length of each putt marking it on your score card after each hole with the minimum distance being 1ft. Or another way is the maximum length you can count is 10ft and the shortest 1ft, always round up to the nearest foot and if you can average 54ft per round you are a good putter. The minimum you can have after a round is 18ft and the longest 180ft.
I would really like to see what peoples results are, if you could email me or let me know your handicap and the total distance for the round and do this over four to six rounds to gain a more accurate measurement, it would be a big help in my personal coaching and a way for you to understand if your putting is a strength or not.
If you are interested or have any more questions, please let me know and below are a few tips on putting to help off the course.

A mixed day at Ringway GC...
Sunday was a mixed day for the club, with the Archie Preston Team unfortunately coming up against a strong Portal Team and giving a lot of shots the result didn't go our way. Later in the afternoon the Dunham Forrest team took on Swinton Park, with four members taking part in both matches it was a tall order and the team came through winning 5-2, with a creditable mention to Harry Hulme making birdie on the first extra hole with a birdie. I do have to say, that I contributed to one of the losses, but I will be doing my upmost to get a win in the next round.
Harry Hulme and Martyn Grimley driving well.
Our Associate and Beginner Ladies took part in an England Golf initiative with over 20 players from RIngway taking part. We were extremely well represented showing a bright future for our Membership pathway. The ladies loved taking part in the event at Style Golf Club on the Par 3 course and are especially looking forward to gaining more experience on the course, through our Orange Course. Here is a picture of our Ladies with Sean Hamill from England Golf and Sarah Lalley-Jones with her fourth place certificate.

This Week...
This week has been a rhythm week for full swing and putting. Classifying your fastest swing as ten, on the practice ground can you make a different tempo and then classify it as a number. The slower the tempo, the lower the ball flight, so next time you are into wind rather than forcing it take a club more and focus on tempo or even just a number.
In Putting, I have asked a lot of players to make three different kinds of stroke for the same hole, short and quick, medium speed and length and then long and slow. One may suit your eye better than another and then out on the course you can mix it up, maybe a long putt will have to be long and fast but a quick putt short and slow. By focusing on how you want to swing the putter it takes your mind away from the 'bad' thoughts we all love to think of.

Gapping Sessions
Several members have had a gapping session with TrackMan to understand where they might be making the game more difficult by having big gaps of distances between clubs, especially around the wedge areas and between long irons and fairway woods. The results for each individual have been interesting with certain clubs overlapping, or doing the same job and tricky areas on the course now being solved with the correct lofts in their bags. Let Sam, Rick or myself know and we can get your clubs working best for you.
