Finals day We had a fantastic finals day we had with some superb matches and this was only down to the tremendous work done by Richie and his team to get the course playable after all this rain we have had. The clubhouse was full afterwards and there was a great atmosphere which was great to be part of and the speeches were exceptional, but for me personally, the best speech came from our Junior Captain Bronte Ward after being successful in becoming the first junior to win a ladies knockout. She delivered a very warming and thoughtful speech full of praise and humility that was an absolute credit to herself, family and us a club for having such a fantastic Junior Captain. At the end of the night we said good bye to Fiona and Peter after several long years serving the club to the highest degree, the Captain made a lovely speech as did Fiona and Peter. It was great to see the members stand and applaud the both of them in thanks for their service. I as all the staff and members do wish them both the very best for the future. Saturday we tried to keep the course open and more importantly playable, but there was just too much rain and the greens just couldn’t handle it. I heard that even Alwoodly, a sand based course had to introduce a lift clean and drop policy for an event, which just shows how well our clay based course is holding up in comparison. This local rule brings me on to the R&A and their ideas on new rules that could be introduced in 2019. They want clubs to try some or all of them out to then give feedback on the success. The golf committee had a meeting last week to discuss some of these points and watch this space for new rules over the winter! The seniors are making changes to encourage more players into the competitions and team matches, such as ready golf and no shirt and tie for the meal after. Please speak to Ronnie about the changes and how you can get involved to enjoy your golf even more.
