Welcome to this week's newsletter, which contains a great quiz on the past decade of golf for you to give a go, as well as the latest golfing challenge that’s well worth trying at home. We can't go any further though before we wish Ken Abbott a Happy 80th Birthday that took place on Monday. Hopefully we can celebrate together soon and you still have that impressive beard (you will be a great shout to play Father Christmas this year). I think next week we will be talking a start date back on the course after the announcements take place on Thursday and Sunday. The pro shop will be ready to look after your every need as we can play again. Also I will be doing one-to-one lessons and club fittings whilst keeping a 2m distance for anyone who is interested. Drop me a note if you would like me to call you as soon as we know when we can start. Stay safe and enjoy this week's read...

The results are in... So last week we gave you a test and I had one response! Do I need to get the picture that my tests are rubbish? Anyway the results are Gary player, John Daly, Jack Nicklaus, Hale Irwin, Ben Hogan, Adam Scott, David Duvall, Jordan Spieth, Keegan Bradley, Phil Mickleson, Henrik Stenson, Seve Ballesteros, Tiger Woods, Payne Stewart, Charley Hull, Martin Kaymer. I only got 11 when I first saw it. |

Improving my service to you! I have been very fortunate that the golf club has supported me throughout this period, when a lot of other golf clubs haven't. That alongside the top up account has meant as a family we can manage through this period. I wasn't about to just sit back and sunbathe though and I have been getting things straight for the pro shop, but what I'm most excited to tell you about is the training courses I have taken to improve my knowledge, my standard as your Professional and the exposure for the golf club. |
| Operation 36 |
|
Operation 36 is an academy course that get's you playing from 25 yards after your first lesson, where you have a target of shooting 36 or better for 9 holes. After accomplishing that, you move to 50 yards and there are 10 stations with an aim to shoot 36 or better from the normal tees. We believe that this system will give us an upper hand on other golf academies. To take this further I have sat an online course with an exam at the end and I scored 96% which as a result makes Ringway the ONLY venue to have a certified coach in the whole of EUROPE. I'm really looking forward to getting the academy up and running. |
I have also taken the shaft fitting qualification done by True Temper Shafts as well as a See More Putting training course and a huge course I can hopefully shout about next week. So watch this space. |

Golf's greatest rivalries |
We want to hear from you There’s much debate as to golf’s greatest rivalry. From one era to the next, elite players have gone head-to-head and produced some truly memorable moments on the course. At this current time, there’s a whole host of young talent jostling for position at the top of the rankings: McIlroy, Koepka, Rahm and Thomas to name just a few. However, in terms of a rivalry between two golfers, we don’t seem to have that right now. So, we want to know what your favourite golfing rivalry has been through the years. Click the link below to head to our website and take part in our poll. Enter our poll here.

Fact of the week In 1971, Alan Shepard – the first American astronaut in space – became the first person to hit a golf ball on the moon. Here’s what he said to the USGA after landing back on earth: “I shanked the first one; it rolled into a crater about 40 yards away. The second one, I kept my head down. I hit it flush and it went at least 200 yards.”

What can you remember from the last decade? We hope you enjoyed last week's Silhouette Challenge; some were certainly easier than others. The end of 2019 also marked the end of a decade, but how much can you remember - on a golfing front - from those 10 years? Put your memory to the test with this week's quiz as we challenge you to recall some amazing feats in the world of golf. Good luck!
