Looking forwards to a fantastic summer!
Well to say it's been a wet one is an understatement but it has lead to some interesting walks and much excitement especially from Jemima!
Hopefully, the worst of the weather is now behind us and has come at the right time!
I think this summer is going to be great, on a fantastic course, in the sun and all playing some great golf. I for one am certainly look forwards to it!

A new focus for the season?
We have all outplayed someone from tee to green and still lost, played terribly and then holed a long putt and felt great, played the best bunker shot of your life, only to miss the putt and walk off not even remembering the bunker shot, and so on and so on. This year I will be running lots of group sessions, focusing on the short game and most importantly putting. There is so much focus given to how far you hit the ball and it's become such a talking point with the professionals. Last year, for the first time, driving distance had more of an effect on your world ranking than putting! The top players in the world were the longer hitters rather than the best putters, but in the amateur game I think the opposite is true, yes we have to be able to get the ball to around the green but what happens then is more important. If you disagree please let me know! Now the biggest reason for good and bad putting is green reading and it's in this area I think we can all improve. After that, I would say that outside 10ft it's all about controlling speed, and inside that range, it's about controlling direction.
The opposite can be said for your full swing, in which your long game is more about controlling direction and the short game about controlling distance.
Some food for thought for you - What has happened when you have played your best rounds vs your worst rounds? |

A time to reflect
I hope you are all doing well! It is the final week of January 2021 and I am reflecting on the last year, only letting myself think about the ways this pandemic has made me stronger. Positivity is my main focus at the moment, and although it seems impossible at times, it is the best thing to do in my opinion.
This is of course a very challenging time, but the important thing to remember is that we have been through this before, so we can do it again! At least we have the vaccine this time!
Why not think about the start of the golf season? Maybe you can use this extra time to get your game prepared! Give yourself some goals for the 2021 golf season, whether it’s to win competitions or just to lower your handicap...there is a lot to look forward to!
How are you practising? We may be in lockdown, but there is always a way to practice your golf at home. Whether it’s targeted fitness, putting, or your full driver swing, you can get yourself ready for the start of the season. Putting is the easiest option for me. I think that it goes without saying that, for most golfers, putting is the most important part of your game. Fine-tuning your putting at home should fairly easily translate onto the course when golf returns! My advice is to focus on distance control and feel. Targeted fitness is something that all golfers should benefit from. I would have a look on YouTube for more information but really look into the muscles that contribute to swing speed, like the triceps, and work those muscles. My advice, in this case, is to make sure you don’t overdo it. If all you can manage is a short daily walk, that is good enough! Fitness takes a lot of time and dedication, but if you work within your limits it can be easy to improve your fitness! Finally, if you have a net in your garden, then perfect! Do some full swings and hit balls if you can, as long as you stretch beforehand to reduce any risk of injury. If you do not have a net then you can do a full driver swing in the garden and hit a long tee instead of a ball. This could help you more than you might think! It keeps the swing in your muscle memory if done a couple of times a day, and it really doesn’t take long! If you do not have a garden or a room high enough to practice this, really focus on your chipping and putting. Short game saves scores out on the golf course. So if you do more precise short game practice, then your high scores will become less frequent! This, in my experience, leads to a reduction in your handicap.

New Titleist TSi Drivers are out!
I have been looking into the Titleist TSi range this past week, especially the drivers. The TSi2 and TSi3 drivers are out now! The TSi2 driver is for the golfer who is looking for maximum forgiveness and distance, whereas the TSi3 driver is for the golfer looking for precision performance, dialled in ball flight and a club with a classic shape and profile.
The TSi3 comes with SureFit technology to help achieve this, which is a weight adjustability system which offers 5 unique positions to adjust club head CG (centre of gravity) to fine-tune ball flight by moving the weight towards the toe or the heel of the clubhead. Both the TSi2 and TSi3 drivers have improved aerodynamics which reduces drag by 15% during the swing. This leads to faster clubhead speed resulting in faster ball speed and more distance. |
|
Both drivers come with ATI 425 face material, a type of titanium used in jet engines. Titleist is the only golf company using this material which provides superior strength and elasticity. This means Titleist could create a thinner clubface, helping to produce fastest ball speeds to date! If you would any more information on the TSi range, or would like to place an order, please contact us via the email below and we will reply ASAP! If you have any questions at all, please email us at proshop@ringwaygolfclub.co.uk.

Hatton outshines McIlroy Rory McIlroy opened the new European Tour season in an all-too-familiar fashion last weekend. The Northern Irishman was part of a fascinating tug-of-war battle with Tyrrell Hatton at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, only to be completely outplayed by Hatton during the final 18 holes. Just about every player’s bag was brimming with new, exciting-looking equipment; both Hatton and McIlroy heading into battle with brand-new drivers and fairway woods from their respective brands. Did you catch a glimpse of any clubs that got your blood pumping? Keep your eyes peeled, because we’ve got plenty on the way too. And, if you can’t wait, feel free to ask us what’s new & coming soon by getting in touch below. |
