We hope you're well. Whilst Valentine's Day took place last weekend, we have to admit - we've fallen for a lot of the new product that's awaiting you in the pro shop! Until the time comes when you can take a closer look, we are still here to help in any way we can so please don't hesitate to get in touch. Enjoy the read. |
Less than a week away
Here we are another week down but hopefully on Monday, in just 4 days time, we have some good news and golf can return soon. Personally, I think that we will re-open when schools do, but we'll have to see! What to do with ourselves when it's freezing cold? Go for a walk and get an ice-cream!
A lovely day out and great to see my two enjoying themselves no matter how cold dad was watching them run around.

Being honest, it's been a tough couple of weeks even though everyone is healthy and doing well I have really lost my drive and a bit of focus. I said to Kirsty that I needed to go to the shop and get my mind going again.
A big area I think I can add value to your membership and joy for the game is through custom fitting and giving you all the opportunity to try new clubs on the range and the course. To say we have lots of options is an understatement and the choice can sometimes be hard, so I thought we could do with displaying what we had to offer in a better way.
So welcome to a slightly different layout in the shop. I hope this leads to a far greater shopping experience and you put your trust in us to find the best possible club(s) to help you reach your goals this year.

A costly 4-putt
I think the image says it all really and is certainly some food for thought. Nate Lashley struggled with this at Pebble Beach on Sunday, and did you know the 4-putt on 16 cost him in the region of $500,000.00?! His reaction wasn't the best but I think we have all been there and a lot have probably done the same if not worse. The thing is, he could have just given up and bogeyed in and lost even more money, but he didn't and played the last two holes in one under. Don't let the past influence the future and have a good game plan and stick to it.
What do you think? |

I hope you are all doing well!
Who else watched the Pebble Beach Pro-Am last week? I saw a few of the highlights and seeing Daniel Berger win with an eagle on the last hole, to win by 2 shots over McNealy, was entertaining, to say the least! Though I think Spieth could’ve done better, he did well to come in a tie for 3rd.
Read on for this weeks training tip, plus more on the new Callaway Epic Fairway Woods! Tip of the week
This week I want you to look away from your usual practice, and of course, this is something for you to do at home. Something that is very important for the golf swing is weight transfer, and in order for your weight to be transferred efficiently, you need to be stable! Here is a quote from the popular Golf Digest magazine: (At address) “Your weight should be 50-50 on your left and right legs and between the balls of your feet and your heels.”
You can practice this setup position without a club at first, really focussing on getting your weight distributed correctly, try leaning onto your toes and then your heal, back and forth until you find the right point. If your weight is set correctly at address, you can't be easily pushed off balance - either forwards or backwards. You can then get hold of a club and practice a slow swing, ensuring that you maintain the weight between the balls and heels of your feet. I remember being shocked at how this improved my strike, especially with my irons! Weight too far forwards can lead to fat shots, whereas weight too far back can lead to thin shots. Remember that!

New Callaway Epic Fairway Woods Callaway has introduced two new Epic Fairway Woods this year: the Epic Speed and Epic MAX. I have read up on these two new Fairway Woods and would like to mention a few key new features...
|
Firstly, a couple of similarities between the two fairways:
The first similarity is that Callaway has used new advanced A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) to create a new Jailbreak system in both Fairway Woods, which spreads and angles the Jailbreak blades. You can see in the image the Jailbreak velocity blades in the face of the clubhead.
This stiffens the body of the club, allowing the cupped face to flex more. This extra flexing leads to exceptional ball speeds across the entire face!

The second similarity is that Callaway has also used A.I. to design the face of the Fairway Woods; forged using high-strength C300 maraging steel for speed and spin consistency across the face. This is especially helpful with off-centre hits! Now here the features of both of the Epic fairway wood models: - The Epic Speed fairway wood features a forward COG (centre of gravity) that promotes strong ball flight, outstanding robustness and consistent shot-shape dispersion.
- Epic Speed Fairways are available in a 3, 3+, 4, 5 & 7 wood.
- The Epic MAX fairway wood is engineered into an oversized shape to deliver high ball speeds in an “easy to hit package”. The oversize head combines with the shallow face to make the Epic MAX Fairway easy to launch.
- The Epic MAX fairway allows the golfer to adjust launch and spin using a 2g and 14g weight, so you can switch the weights around to do this; the heavier weight in the rear of the club provides you with more forgiveness. Whereas putting the heavier weight in the front leads to lower launch and less spin, for a strong ball flight.
- Epic MAX fairways are available in a 3+, 3, 5, “heaven wood” (20 degrees, 1 degree less loft than the 7 wood), 7, 9 & 11 wood.
If you are interested in buying any of these products, please contact James via the pro shop email (below). And of course, if you have any questions at all, please email us at proshop@ringwaygolfclub.co.uk. Stay safe everyone!

Berger's victorious eagle | Spieth's comeback continues Daniel Berger emerged victorious on Valentine's Day after a grandstand finish worthy of a champion. Having double-bogeyed the 18th hole to complete his third round, the young American had a change of fortunes come Sunday as his stunning eagle left him two shots clear of the rest of the field at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. However, the story of the week arguably came a few spots further down the leaderboard as Jordan Spieth competed down the stretch for the second consecutive week. It might not sound like a big story given the phenomenal start to Spieth's career, but the American has been battling with his game for a few years now in a stretch that saw him fall to 92nd in the World Rankings. Could this be the start of a resurgence for Spieth? The signs are certainly there! |
Distance Measuring Devices allowed on Tour In other news, distance-measuring devices (laser rangefinders) will be permitted at the men’s, women’s & seniors’ PGA Championships this year. Whilst this has caused some debate amongst golfers and experts alike, it’s a reminder of just how incredibly useful they can be out on the course, saving time and shots. If you're still pacing out your yardages from the 150-yard marker, maybe it's time to look at how these fantastic bits of technology could help your game? Send us a message below if you'd like to explore this further. |
